Emily Stewart Bio

Meet Emily

Emily Stewart brings nearly two decades of experience designing and facilitating programs and workshops for faculty, staff, students, and young people in both nonprofit and higher education settings. In 2015, she co-founded the Teaching for Equity Fellows program and served as director while working at the Duke Human Rights Center at the Franklin Humanities Institute. She is now a racial equity consultant, co-facilitating the fellowship and other workshops with Krista Robinson-Lyles. Her approach to this work is informed by her experience in community-based research partnerships for environmental justice, advising students pursuing a human rights curriculum, and training in racial justice and embodiment. She has written in nonacademic and academic venues on the intersections of environmental justice, somatics, racial equity, ecology, parenting, and nonviolence.
